A gummy smile is a result of the upper lip elevating too far above the upper teeth, exposing gums and producing an unattractive “Gummy Smile.” This phenomenon can be attributed to several factors, one of which is caused by a hyperactive muscle elevating the upper lip. Occasionally, the gummy smile is also aggravated by a thinness of the upper lip thus exposing the upper gum even more.
For most people smiling is an expression of joy, but for individuals with a gummy smile, this happy expression can leave them feeling self-conscious resulting in a minimized smile or a preference not to smile at all. This can have a negative impact on professional, social, and personal relationships. Thankfully, gummy smile reduction is possible, straightforward and effective, using a non-surgical approach by injecting Botox® into the hyperactive muscle of the upper lip. A carefree, natural smile could soon be yours simply by weakening the hyperactive muscles and reducing the elevation of your upper lip.
The procedure takes 15 – 30 minutes and involves the application of a topical anaesthetic, to numb the area prior to injection. A tiny amount of Botox® is then injected on each side of the lip to weaken the muscles’ ability to contract. Over 3-10 days, elevation of the upper lip is weakened and your smile is transformed, giving you the confidence to smile whilst showing less of the gum line and feeling free from inhibition.
Results last about three-four months and most patients find they are elated at being able to smile without feeling self-conscious. During your no obligation consultation, you are invited to discuss any individual concerns and will be examined to ensure this procedure is right for you.
Hyperhydrosis (Excessive Sweating)
Hyperhydrosis is a condition affecting the volume of perspiration produced by the body. Estimated to affect about 2% of the population, it’s a problem effecting both men and women and it can be the whole body or just certain areas such as the palms of the hands, the feet or the underarms. The cause of excessive perspiration is unknown however it is thought that genetics play some role and other influencing factors may include particular foods and drinks, nicotine and caffeine. The condition leaves the affected areas constantly damp making it difficult to carry out every day activities and inevitably causing associated embarrassment and self- consciousness.
Other than medication, there is a straightforward treatment available using Botox® injections which are frequently used in the treatment of facial frown lines and wrinkles. Botox® is FDA approved for chronic underarm sweating and generates great results in preventing the sweat glands from producing excess levels of moisture. Using Botox, Skintuition carefully reduces sweating in patients that lasts for around 4-6 months
